Fresh, flavorful and deliciously chilled, this easy and classic grouper ceviche recipe is the perfect afternoon snack to eat beside the pool with freshly warmed tortilla chips.

Ingredients for Grouper Ceviche

  • Fresh Grouper (or fish of choice)
  • Several limes (for lime juice)
  • Cilantro
  • Red onion
  • Red bell pepper
  • Green bell pepper
  • Yellow bell pepper
  • Jalapeno (optional)
  • Garlic salt
  • Onion powder

Grouper Ceviche Instructions:

Rinse and pat dry the fresh grouper (or any local Keys fish).  Season it liberally with the garlic salt, pepper, and onion powder.  Cut fish into small pieces.  Place in a glass bowl and cover with fresh-squeezed lime juice.  Let it sit for at least 15 minutes.  This citrus bath cooks the fish.

While the fish is marinating, chop the onion red, green and yellow peppers, jalapenos, and cilantro into small pieces.  Add the vegetables after the 15 minutes has expired. Cover and refrigerate for several hours or overnight for best results.  Add the cilantro just before serving.

Speedy hint:

Publix sells cut up bell peppers and onions in their produce section if you want to avoid the time it takes to do the chopping yourself!

important note: always choose the freshest fish possible when making ceviche or any raw fish recipe.
